This residence, built for speculative sale, is located in an established urban Seattle neighborhood, and has been designed in a classic style sympathetic to the scale and spirit of the surrounding homes. The undersized building site is a steeply sloped, irregular triangle with a long curved exposure to the street. This prominent location required a strong form and special consideration for privacy. The landscape elements emphasize the curve and provide transition between the house and street, while the active gathering spaces are oriented to the quiet privacy of the ravine. The program was derived from our many years of experience remodeling older in-city residences. The graciousness of a traditional plan has been combined with modern special concepts to respond to the spontaneity of present day family living.
